The manifestations of sickle cell anemia are variable: anemia, painful vaso-occlusive crises, strokes, increased susceptibility to meningitis and osteomyelitis infections, particularly chronic organ damage. In France, thanks to early treatment, sickle cell anemia now only results in exceptional mortality in childhood, contrasting, however, with significant morbidity.
