Abdominal pain is a frequent reason for seeking medical advice. While most causes of this pain are benign, some constitute genuine emergencies. The results of the initial patient history and physical examination conducted by the first clinician assessing a patient are often nonspecific and insufficient in cases of severe symptoms. Imaging therefore plays a central role in managing abdominal emergencies. The types of abdominal emergencies encountered are numerous, and this new volume in the "Syllabus of the SFR" (French Society of Radiology) and SIAD (French Society of Abdominal and Digestive Imaging) series describes them comprehensively. It thus presents a state-of-the-art overview of abdominal emergency imaging. Trauma is addressed first and foremost, with the various injuries then detailed by region (right hypochondrium, right and left iliac fossae, epigastrium). Gastrointestinal bleeding, acute mesenteric ischemia, obstructions, and acute ileocolitis are also covered, not forgetting shock originating in the abdomen and acute postoperative complications, which are addressed in specific chapters. Richly illustrated and comprehensive, presented in a didactic manner and written by leading experts in diagnostic and interventional abdominal imaging, this book is the current reference on the subject.
